This is a great show. I wish there were recordings that could really capture the wall of sound. I would have loved to have been there for a Wall of Sound show.
On another note, the box of rain is great. Its a rare treat, and Phil can't sing it like he used to.

For those of you who usually bypass the first set and go directly to the second set, you might want to slow down here take a peek. Great Sunshine, great Flag, Jerry rolls out the carpet on TLEO, and a memorable CcS>IKYR to close. It's got that analoge sound to it like it's straight off a cassette tape, which I absolutely love. The second set deserves a place in legendry. 4.75 Stars!

the release of the complete europe '72 has roused me from my slumber. please allow me to ramble on here since this is my first posting and i'm filled with deep memories. and please feel free to correct me if i misremember. if you were there ratings are silly. hopefully you live long enough to realize how fortunate you are/were. this was my 21st birthday, nice of the dead to play in my comfort zone that night (i was going to providence college at the time), karmic reinforcement. remember hanging around the spfld civic center all afternoon on a beautiful early spring day. remember going on a beer run, perhaps my first experience with bass ale. general admission in those days, i remember being carried through the front doors with my feet off the ground - scary, and always linked in my mind with the who crush in cinci '79. also remember rushing into general admission boston garden during wall of sound days trying to get close. as far as set list/music is concerned, i must admit to a foggy memory. the EVENT was the thing! by the time the music started , the memory banks were compromised by outside agents. do remember this was my first dark star i believe( my 1st show being providence arena 4/21/71), and i remember being surprised that they would play it, at the time we believed it to be a song we would only hear on live dead. other than that i will only say how great it felt to be a part of the tribe that night. 5 stars for every show i saw until the 90's. so much for my critical credibility. i'd be more than happy to engage in a dialogue about my experiences with the boys at this site, rather than limit us all to solitary erudition. help me remember or just tell me to shut up. thanks y'all.

What a great sounding audience show. Really loud and clear. Powerful right from the get go.
I won't bore with individual song reviews. Just listen. This is a perfect show to put on and get lost in.
Come to think of it, I saw the '85 shows here, and remember thinking how loud they were too. Coincidence? I think not.

Subject: good sounding aud
Subject: good sounding aud
Very good sounding aud considering the time period. But don't let that caveat dissuade you from listening to this show. It's an excellent one with some of the best playing I've heard for this very good year. Donna and the boys are on vocally for the most part and Jerry just plays his ass off. Everybody is present in the mix (well maybe Bill could be louder) and as other reviewers have noted it sounds like you're there. Good energy, great show.

good sounding, slightly muffled AUD, very worth the download, and one of those cases where the aud is slightly preferable to the sbd -- you feel like you're there -- get it while the gettin' is good.

I streamed this last sunday AM when having breakfast. Religious! Love the pre 75 setlists that were so free and unformulated! They throw the kitchen sink at you....which makes doing the dishes after breakfast.....fun! Peace.

Subject: Best '73 Dead I ever heard. and I should know. saw 25 myself in '73
holy crap! heads-up! everything i listened to was top shelf '73. Perhaps the best '73 Garcia I've ever heard... and perhaps by a good margin. I should know... saw 25 in '73. taped 4 shows myself. This show is on fire. Cumberland Blues, Here Comes Sunshine, They Love Each Other, Around and Around, China > Rider... all nailed seriously. Most other tunes too. It's like '73 energy at it's height. Yet this one is slick like in later years. Promised Land, Loose Lucy, Me and My Uncle, Don't Ease Me In, Big River, Miss Half Step... just keeps smokin'. put a fork in Eyes, it's done. can't name one they fumble. It's pretty flawless performance. what a gem! hurry up and d/l this show. this one is a mind-blower!
